What is Order Fulfillment?
Order fulfillment is the end-to-end process of getting a product from your inventory to your customer's doorstep (or job site) accurately, quickly, and in good condition. It encompasses picking, packing, shipping, tracking, delivery, and returns processing. Four main models exist: in-house fulfillment, third-party logistics (3PL), dropshipping, and hybrid approaches combining multiple methods.
How does an Ecommerce website integrate with a fulfillment company API?
Integration occurs through a two-way data connection between your store (Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, custom cart, etc.) and the warehouse system. Core events include order transmission, inventory synchronization, tracking updates, and exception handling for cancellations and returns. J.M. Field's All In View platform connects stores to fulfillment operations, integrating with multiple shopping carts and systems like Salesforce, Zoho, Ariba, and NetSuite.
How does marketing fulfillment work?
Marketing fulfillment coordinates branded materials through print production, receiving/warehousing, kitting/assembly, order management, and pick/pack/ship operations. Materials are printed, stored, assembled into packages as needed, ordered through portals, and distributed with tracking capabilities. J.M. Field connects your marketing teams to a single portal where they can order materials, track inventory, and view shipping performance.
Kitting, Packaging, Storage and Shipping – how do these all work?
Kitting means combining multiple individual products or materials into a single unit that can be picked and shipped as one. Packaging means selecting materials (cartons, void fill, bubble wrap) to prevent damage while managing shipping costs, potentially including custom branding. Storage means receiving inventory, counting, inspecting, and placing it in labeled warehouse locations tracked by SKU. Shipping means picking orders, packing them, applying carrier labels, and tendering to carriers — with tracking numbers shared back to your ecommerce platform.
I have an Amazon Seller Account, do you provide FBA services?
J.M. Field handles preparation before Amazon FBA acceptance: receiving your inventory, storing it securely, and handling hands-on requirements like labeling, poly-bagging, kitting/bundling, and packaging. We also support non-Amazon channels (DTC, wholesale, subscription) simultaneously through All In View integration, so you can manage all your sales channels from one place.
Is it better to work with a company that provides graphic design and printing services, instead of different providers?
In many cases, yes. Advantages of a consolidated provider include brand consistency across all printed and digital materials, faster timelines because files move directly from design to press, single accountability when something needs to be corrected, and better integration with fulfillment operations — printed materials can go directly from press to warehouse without extra handling.
What would you use large format printing for?
Large format printing is what you use when your message needs to be seen from across a room, a parking lot, or from a moving vehicle. Uses include banners and posters, trade show and event graphics, wall wraps and office graphics, retail and facility signage, and window graphics. J.M. Field produces large format print that maintains color accuracy and brand standards at any size.
The differences between Shopify and WooCommerce for an online store?
Shopify is a hosted, cloud-based commerce platform with managed hosting and security — simpler to set up and maintain. WooCommerce is open-source and runs on WordPress, offering more flexibility and control but requiring your own hosting, performance tuning, updates, and security hardening. J.M. Field supports both platforms and connects either to our fulfillment systems depending on your goals.
Can your logo go on any promotional product for branded merchandise?
In most cases, yes — we can put your logo on nearly any promotional product, as long as the item has a surface or material that works with an imprint method. Imprint methods include screen printing, embroidery, direct-to-garment, heat transfers, pad printing, and engraving. Considerations include imprint area constraints, logo complexity, material compatibility, and brand compliance standards. We review all of these before production.
What is 3PL Fulfillment?
3PL fulfillment (third-party logistics fulfillment) is when you outsource the day-to-day work of storing inventory and shipping orders without any loss of control. The process involves J.M. Field receiving your inventory, managing storage, integrating your sales channels, picking/packing/shipping orders, and providing tracking and reporting. You gain warehouse capacity and operational expertise without building it yourself.
How are orders counted?
Orders are counted by each shipment processed and sent to a single address. An order can include one or multiple items and still count as just one order — but if it's split into multiple shipments, each shipment is counted separately. This keeps billing straightforward and aligned with the actual work performed.
What are pick, pack, and ship services?
"Pick" means pulling the ordered items from warehouse storage. "Pack" means packaging them correctly for shipment — the right box, cushioning, and any inserts. "Ship" means applying a carrier label and sending the package to your customer via the selected carrier and service level. These services handle the physical side of order fulfillment.
What is a kit?
A kit is a group of individual items assembled and packaged to be shipped as one unit. For example, a welcome kit or subscription box may include several products combined under a single SKU. J.M. Field handles custom kitting with the same accuracy controls as individual order fulfillment — barcode scanning, quantity verification, and packaging to spec.
What is same-day cutoff for order shipping?
A same-day cutoff for order fulfillment shipping is the latest time an order can be received and still ship out that same business day. Orders placed after the cutoff are processed and shipped the next business day. J.M. Field ships orders every business day with strong operational controls focused on accuracy, speed, and dependable execution.
